How It Works

I charge by the hour for editing, using a timer to scrupulously keep track of time spent on a project. The costs of printing and shipping, if any, are also borne by the author. I can provide a rough estimate of costs for a given project on request. I usually ask that a deposit of 25 to 50 percent be paid in advance on jobs estimated at over $500.00.

Once I have begun working on a project, I provide the author with a schedule for the completion of the editing work. I often have jobs scheduled three to four months in advance, so it is best to contact me early to block out time for all book-length editing jobs. I can usually fit shorter projects--article manuscripts, conference papers, and the like--into gaps in my schedule given a few days' notice.

Depending upon the author's needs, the final product of our collaboration may be a report, a set of the author's electronic files that have been edited in Microsoft Word using the program's "track changes" feature, a hand-marked manuscript, or some combination of the above.
